What’s in a Name?

I’m getting sick of researchers.

I read this article the other day about how people are giving their babies more unusual names. I’d agree with that seeing as my wife and I have chosen to go with “unusual” baby names and several other parents we know have done the same. Because I noticed that, I [...]

Child Safety Pt. 2

Sure, helmet laws might be pushing the boundaries of the safety police, but they’re just protecting children. It’s the same as the laws that require car seats for ever increasingly larger children. I mean, I don’t think fourteen year olds need a car seat, but what about the twelve year olds? Shouldn’t they be protected?

You’re [...]

Maybe why I love cartoons…

Chuck Klosterman is one of my favorite writers right now. He has a knack for taking a subject that seems irrelivant and creates an intriguing analysis that provides some deeper meaning. He gets me thinking.

His newest book, Eating the Dinosaur, is pretty good. A bit heavy on the sports talk, but he makes some [...]

Baby Einstein or Whatever Works

Disney is offering refunds to parents who used “Baby Einstein” videos because they somehow don’t make your kid a genius. I’m not surprised. Have you even seen one of these? It’s the biggest bunch on nonsense imaginable. They might have called the series “Random Crap I Shot in My Basement for Babies”.

Let’s be honest though, [...]

Kid’s Stuff

This is an airplane, or “ha-pane” as my son says. Over the last month I’ve made hundreds of these things and he can’t get enough. Red ones, yellow ones, that awful blue one you see there, and the requests keep comming. Horrible, yes. In my defense, Play-Doh sucks.

Sure, I may have enjoyed the stuff from [...]

Good for him, but…

11-Year-Old Graduates From LA Community College

Okay, cool for him, but I did two years of community college, in some ways it was easier than high school. For this Taiwanese-Israeli boy, it should have been a breeze.

“Pre-teen could probably beat you up, too”

Care to lay some money on that? I don’t care how loud a kid yells [...]

School Days

The more I think about it, the more excited I get about my son going to school. It’s not so much that I want him out of the house already, but I can’t help but get excited to plant in his head the questions I wish I had asked when I was a kid. A [...]

BMI Babies

Here’s a shot story from Fox News that bothers me concerning children’s weight.

Some Massachusetts health officials have decided it’s a good idea to require BMI measurements to be sent home to parents. These measurements will be done and reported starting with kids in 1st grade and continue up to 10th grade.

Starting to address their weight [...]

Odds and Ends

I’m looking to find a baby sitter, and so far that’s been a bit difficult. Anyone I ask doesn’t seem to know of any. I think part of the problem is I don’t know enough people where I live. I’m being punished for not being out going.

So, I did what you do when you don’t [...]

Yes, more laws!

So, there’s this family wants tougher laws against sexting.

This couple had a daughter who sent nude photos of herself to her boyfriend via cellphone. The boyfriend being the dude that he was, shared those pics with all of his friends who were also good bros and they forwarded those photos to their friends. Apparently hundreds of kids [...]
