Starts Today, I Hope.

Well, the move is over. I think. I hope.

I have a few more items to go to the storage unit, but other than that, almost all of the boxes are unpacked and there seems to be some sort of order around the place. It’s funny how you open boxes that you just filled a couple [...]

Man vs. Soul Food

I’m watching Man vs. Food and while I like this show, I’m irritated with it. In this episode, Adam is visiting some soul food place. Like all shows traveling food shows, when dining in a soul food restaurant, they have to ask the question “What is soul food?”

“Soul food is love” is the typical response [...]

It’s about food, but not just…I think.

What does food have to do with everything else? I’ll explain in a moment, but first let get this out.

Ever drive by a restaurant over and over again and start to get a hankering for it?

Yeah, me too. There’s this little place in Wind Gap called JR’s Smokehouse that I’ve been driving by for the [...]

Equal but Not Equal

I know I talk a lot about food. I love food, that’s why I spent a good portion of my life as a heavyweight. That’s why so many food related things tend to annoy me.

I can’t go from dinner to desert then back to dinner, call me crazy.
I don’t want a sandwich that is [...]

This is why you’re fat.

I have to share this with as many people as I can.

I follow the 80-20 rule when it comes to eating. 80% of the time I eat healthy and 20% of the time, I try to kill myself with food. The fine people at This is why you’re fat are amazing. They post pictures of [...]

Thunder Jackson’s man!

I’m writing this more for my friend Rob who was goofing on me about writing about a burger in a previous blog. Last night we went down to Thunder Jackson’s on Bleeker and Sullivan in Manhattan. I’m a burger fanatic. In fact, if I were only allowed to eat burgers for the rest of my [...]

Usher’s House

The Duma
Choice of hand pattied burger or chicken
breast loaded with garlic & green onions then
topped with havarti cheese & bacon

If you’re ever in the Fargo, ND/Moorhead, MN area, I highly recommend swinging by Usher’s House. It’s a place, but I never would have gone to had I not met the manager, Duma, after a show. Duma was [...]

Getting old.

I like broccoli. I didn’t used to. When I was a kid, I would gag at the taste of it.

“Hey, I made some broccoli covered in cheese.”
“Why would you ruin perfectly good cheese?”

Did the broccoli get better or is it just that once you hit 30 those taste buds really kick in?

Maybe when I’m 50 [...]

In defense of hunting

I’ve seen several comedians criticize hunting and many audience members agreeing. What bothers me is their thinking that hunting isn’t necessary is anchored in the fact that you can buy meat at the grocery store.

I can understand why someone who’s form of hunting revolves around taking a stroll thru the refrigerated meats section would be [...]

Dog food?

I was listening to a comercial for a highly touted brand of dog food. The advertisment gave some of the ingredients for the dog food and I got curious. I went to the website for this stuff and looked at the full list of ingredients.

Here’s just the first several:

Water sufficient for processing, beef, chicken, liver, [...]
